About the session

In 2024, the IPDC Egypt Sea-Level Rise (SLR) Hackathon brought Egyptian and Dutch experts together to explore the SLR risks to the Nile Delta and identify solution tracks and future strategies. Over four days, hackathon teams collaborated to analyse risks and develop strategies across critical sectors such as water and agriculture, infrastructure, environment, and health. Cross-cutting groups also examined governance, finance, and social disruption and migration (SDM) due to SLR.

This session will:

  • Share insights from the Hackathon’s preparation and execution, highlighting its role as a co-creation and knowledge-sharing platform and as a tool for accelerated climate adaptation.
  • Dive deep into preliminary findings on the human impacts of SLR – including the potential for community displacement and migration.

Panel of experts

The session will feature and an engaging panel discussion with distinguished experts, including representatives from: the National Water Research Centre of Egypt, the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, the Dutch Embassy in Cairo, Deltares, and SOAK.

Their diverse perspectives will enrich the dialogue on social disruption and migration risks due to sea-level rise.
