Join us on Thursday 15 May from 11:00 – 12:00 CET for an online session on the applicability of global climate projections to local scale adaptation.
About the session
The session will focus on the applicability of global climate projections to local scale adaptation. This will include an in-depth look at why global climate model projections cannot, in most situations, be directly used to inform local scale adaptations, and how downscaling by using regional climate models can play a role.
The session will also consider case studies demonstrating how global projections have in the past proved insufficient to identify local trends. Participants will also hear from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on how it operates in data-poor regions, navigating uncertainty and leveraging available tools to tailor its investment decisions.
Speakers
After the presentations, there will be time for an interactive Q&A with the speakers. Speakers and moderators include:
- Dr. Helena van der Vegt, Head Resilient Ports and Coasts Department, Deltares moderator
- Prof. Dr. Roshanka Ranasinghe, AXA Chair in Climate Change Impacts and Coastal Risk, IHE Delft
- Dr. Ali Dastgheib, Associate Professor of Coastal Engineering and Port Development, IHE Delft
- Alessio Giardino, Senior Climate and Coastal Adaptation Specialist, Asian Development Bank
